I only have 1 computer in my house. All I do on it is check the news, play non username/password required games, and basically nothing else. I know people say every computer needs a antivirus. But the only thing I do on it that requires anything personal is a yahoo account. How important is it to use a antivirus? My mom says 30-60$ is a little expensive and I needed to come on here to check if I should.

yes, its not always the websites fault, e.g. say you went on youre favourite game site, one of the banners could have a malicious virus in it. the website didnt know this and without anti virus neither do you.
although not as good as a paid one they do the job especially if you just want some form of minor security
atleast ensure you are on firefox/google chrrome, internet explorer leaves you open strongly to attacks.
ensure atleast you have windows firewall enabled.
you can also get free ones, the best being AVS (google it
