I have Verizon and am confused on how blackberry’s work versus regular cell phones. If you turn off internet access on a blackberry, you cannot make phone calls or text messages. Why is this? Does their internet function on a different frequency? Can anyone explain how a blackberry works?

I have ADSL connection with 1mbps of bandwidth. I have 2 computers connected to a switch and the internet bandwidth is shared among the computers. If the the other computer downloads a file from the internet the other computer slows down.
