My Computer Is Running Really Slow Since I Upgraded To Windows Vista Business. How Can I Speed It Up?

I think with Vista the computer uses a lot of programs in the background. Is there a way to manage the programs running so I don’t bog down my computer?

yeah you can. Right click on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and then click on Task manager. Click file, then run. then type in msconfig.
Go to the start up tab and deselect things like quicktime, itunes helper, webcam stuff, and play around with different things to see what you loose when you start up.
obviously dont deselect things like “Microsoft Windows operating system”. Hit Apply.
You can then go to the services tab and deselect non essentials like Windows Cardspace (i doubt anyone has ever used it) and “readyboost” and things like blutooth if your computer doesnt have blutooth. generally, dont disable services if theyre Running, as that means the computer uses them. hit apply again.
Doing this will make your computer start up quicker as it isnt loading up so many programs at once into its memory, and also reduces the amount of memory used, freeing up more. Win!

A disk cleanup followed by a defrag will usually help.
First do a disk cleanup. Right click the drive in My Computer, choose Properties and Disk cleanup. Delete the temp files, temporary internet files, empty the recycle bin etc. Don’t compress the drive contents.
Then you can defrag. I never liked the in-built Windows defragger; instead I use Diskeeper. Head over to http://www.diskeeper.com and download the free trial version of Diskeeper 2009. It’s the best defragger for Windows and defrags everything including large files and system files, even with low free space. Install Diskeeper, turn on the auto defrag mode; Diskeeper will do everything in the background automatically, and you can use your computer as usual.

Windows Vista is a memory hog. It has a minimum requirement of 1gb of memory, but 2gb is highly recommended. My wifes laptop has vista and was terribly slow, after I upgraded to 2gb of ram memory it ran so much better. Also, if you already have more than 1gb, this website has other things to do to make a slow computer faster!http://www.ehow.com/how_5303495_make-slo…

It sounds like you are getting a lot of cookies, adware, and other nusances. You should try using a booster software or an computer optimization software. These types of software will remove a lot of the junk that websites deposit into your computer everytime you search the web. I was having similar problems and I went with the optimizer and my system has been running much better.

The Windows Registry is the master control center for your operating system and applications it runs. Corruption or overload registry issues can cause all sorts of pc performance problems, including poor application startup times, slow Windows start-up, extremely slow shut down, inability to resume from computer sleep and more.Cleaning, compacting, and optimizing your Windows registry can go a long way to dramatically speeding up your computer’s performance, start-up and shutdown speed.

You need to scan your PC time to time with registry software to clean registry errors and speed up your system……..
